Sailor Moon characters Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus did not set out to be the primary example of Anime Censorship in the US, but that is certainly what happened. These Anime characters, along with many others, spent the 90s, and the decades before, in the US going through constant writes and story changes to “straight-wash” their identity for more conservative censors. Recently, however, many cartoons and shows have been able to showcase these characters and more in the way they were intended without fear of the censors. Join us as we dive into the Rise of Anime and its Censorship in America.
